Helpfulness

Editor in Chief® Beginning Book 1 was perfect for us, because Ive got a 2nd grader just beginning this type of thing in language arts, and a 4th grader who needs a little help with it. Each lesson begins with the rules. They are laid out in a basic numbers- and bullet-point manner, which I appreciate. I like being able to see everything immediately, rather than trying to pick out the rule from a long paragraph with extraneous words. The rules page is followed by a series of example paragraphs, in which the child is asked to spot the broken rule and fix it. In the back of the book is an answer key which not only gives the correct answer but states the specific rule. This is particularly helpful if you have a child who wants to know Why??-you can refer them to a specific rule. I appreciated that the paragraphs are each accompanied by a picture, for a little visual interest, and are reasonably interesting for small, busy minds. If you have been looking for some help with grammar and punctuation, I highly recommend The Critical Thinking Co.™ as a place to start your search!

I 'have been using The Critical Thinking Company materials for 17 years. We home educate our sons and these books are an important part of our curriculum. Our 1st son is an honor student at the University, and our 2nd son, a senior in high school, just scored a perfect 800 on the critical reading section of the SAT. He says, 'After all of those Editor in Chief books, how could I not do well, mom!' Thanks Critical Thinking Co.!
